Our History
Warren County Pathfinders (WCP), formerly known as Warren County Handicapped Services (WCHS), has been dedicated to serving individuals with developmental disabilities in Warren County since 1986. Our journey began when the Senate Bill 40 tax levy was passed in September of that year, providing essential funding to establish much-needed services for the community.
Our initial programs included: An integrated preschool, the Discovery Plus Adult Recreation Program, and transportation services for individuals attending sheltered workshops across the county. In 1991, with the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), all children—including those with disabilities—were guaranteed access to a free public education. In response, WCP phased out its preschool program and redirected efforts to expand and diversify services for residents and their families. Over time, we developed 11 unique programs to better meet the evolving needs of the community.
A major milestone came on August 6, 2021, when WCP moved into a brand-new, fully accessible facility. Services at the new location began on August 9, 2021. This facility houses our administrative offices and Choices, our first adult day program. In July 2022, we embraced a new chapter with a progressive name change from Warren County Handicapped Services to Warren County Pathfinders. This change reflects our mission of growth, inclusion, and forward momentum—making a positive impact on those we serve. Continuing our expansion, WCP opened its second adult day program, Journey’z, in Truesdale, MO in the fall of 2023.
